About
When I first began yoga, it was a challenge, and I almost gave up many times. My levels of flexibility and strength made many poses inaccessible. However, I didn't give up! I taught myself how to modify the poses to work for my body, and began to welcome the use of props in my practice. Although I was a casual practitioner of yoga for many years, I truly fell in love with my practice in 2015 as I was going through a time of depression in my life. Through meditation, breathing exercises, and the poses, I found a space of peace and quiet in my life and in my mind; I found balance. To put it bluntly: yoga saved me. After completing my 200 hour yoga teacher training in 2016 with Yoga Vibe in Los Angeles, California, I promised myself that I would help others find the magic in yoga without having to go through the hurdles I faced early on in my own practice. Today, I am a yoga teacher and a Reiki healer, sharing my love of yoga and alternative healing with the world!

About
Alissa Nelson is a science nerd, quinoa-loving yoga teacher, and social justice activist.
She has worked with public housing residents, patients, physicians, and health policy experts. Regardless of the setting, she works alongside people to help them embody the change they seek in the world. Alissa is often described by friends and colleagues as grounded, authentic, and smart; she enjoys hearing about people's lived experiences as much as she loves a good a literature search.
She earned masters degrees in neuroscience, social work, and public health from Washington University in St. Louis and a bachelor's of science in neuroscience from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, working for three years in the lab of Dr. Jeffrey Hall, the 2017 Nobel Prize winner in Medicine or Physiology. She is really into complicated meals, fantasizing about having a handmade wardrobe, and learning to feel comfortable in the ocean in and around Los Angeles.

About
I am a round, middle aged, neurodivergent, bisexual, white woman with a passion for accessibility in yoga, because I rarely feel "welcomed" in modern western yoga spaces.
